A message from the Most Reverend Oscar A. Solis, DD
2024 Annual Meeting
Welcome to the diocese of salt lake city.
Discovered in 1776 by Franciscan Missionaries, and founded in 1891, the diocese of Salt Lake City comprises the entire state of Utah and is home to over 300,000 Catholics, 48 churches, 20 missions, 3 chapels, 5 stations, 3 Newman Centers, a monastery, our cathedral and 16 Catholic schools.
Following in the footsteps of two brave Franciscan explorers, the Diocese of Salt Lake City has grown from its humble roots as a missionary diocese of miners, immigrants and railroad workers, to an important presence on the Utah landscape. The Catholic Community of Utah continues to grow and flourish into the new millennium.
Proud to welcome the EOHSJ Western USA Lieutenancy, we encourage members and guests to register for all our special activities which have been handpicked to celebrate local culture and ecclesial patrimony. We are looking forward to sharing our area’s richness, as well as the diverse talents and gifts of our membership.
Annual Meeting Co-Chairs
A Welcome Message
Our Salt Lake Area members are thrilled to host the 2024 Annual Meeting at the new Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City. As H.E. Most Rev. Oscar A. Solis, KC*HS announced in his invitation video, our theme is “Salt of the Earth” (Matthew 5:13).
To set the tone for this theme, we will begin our meeting with a dinner and concert performance by world touring Madeleine Choir School at the beautiful Cathedral of the Madeleine. The Cathedral will also be the venue for the Promotion and Investiture Liturgies. Located only blocks from the hotel, the Cathedral of the Madeleine is the only Cathedral in the world named for St. Mary Magdalene and is a true treasure for the entire community.
Our Friday morning activities feature an exciting visit to the Utah Olympic Park in Park City with a private tour and aerial ski performance at the training facility, or a tour of the Genealogy Library. This visit will include a presentation on researching your genealogy and an explanation on how to use the library’s vast resources, even after you return home. Be sure to have fun at the Saturday evening theme dinner, where you can be one of many interesting Utah film characters from the past 100 years. As always, we always look forward to our Sunday Gala as we celebrate our investees.
Our wish for you is that you find your time in Utah to be spirit-filled and a truly prayer-filled and peaceful weekend. By fully participating in the Annual Meeting, members strive, like salt, to maintain their flavor-enhancing gift of faith and support of our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land.
Now, as much as ever, we EOHSJ members need to be aware that we are salt to those Christians in the Holy Land, and they in turn are more important than ever as examples of peace and love in this turbulent environment.
