Tucson Area
The Diocese of Tucson is the fifth largest diocese in the continental United States comprising of Gila, Graham, Greenlee, Pinal, Cochise, Santa Cruz, Pima, Yuma, and La Paz counties. It is a mission diocese covering 42,707 square miles with a population of 1.7 million of which 22% are Catholic. Having 78 parishes and numerous missions ranging from Yuma in the west, Nogales in the south, Sierra Vista in the southeast, Apache Junction in the north and Tucson in the center, our members are dispersed throughout the geographic boundaries of the diocese. The Diocese of Tucson is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe with the mother church for the diocese being St. Augustine Cathedral. Tucson is also home to Mission San Xavier del Bac which was founded in 1692 by Padre Eusebio Kino.
Bishop Edward J. Weisenburger was installed on 29 November 2017 replacing Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas who still resides in Tucson. We are blessed to have two bishops and multiple clergy who actively participate and support our Order.
The newly constructed Bishop Kicanas Pastoral Center, located next to St. Augustine Cathedral, is the new home for our Mid-Year meetings. The next Mid-Year meeting for the EOHSJ members of the Diocese of Tucson will be on April 10, 2024.
There are over 100 members of the EOHSJ in the Diocese of Tucson and our prime goal is enhanced member sanctification while providing the utmost support for the Holy Land, our diocese, and our parishes.
