Saturday Dinner Event

Always one of the highlights of our Annual Meetings, you can look forward with anticipation for our Saturday Night Dinner Party. As 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of Utah-based movies, the Dinner Party theme will borrow its name “Just for the fun of it!” from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Members are encouraged to click here to consult our list and links of Utah’s rich filmography to choose a movie to theme your attire.

Grand Ball

All members come together to close out the Annual Meeting with our Grand Ball. Preceded by the Investiture Mass and the opportunity for professional formal portraits, the Grand Ball is an opportunity to culminate the weekend in celebration of member Investitures and Promotions, in consolidation of our objectives for the year, and in camaraderie developed over the previous few days. Formal wear will be required. Please click here for Dress Guidelines.

Ministry Fair & Vendor Events

Running in tandem with many of the hospitality and registration events, a hall will be opened to members of ministries to celebrate the many ways in which they have furthered their service to the Church and Christians of the Holy Land through the intervention of EOHSJ. Additionally, the Order is blessed with a myriad of service providers and product merchants who provide benefits to members themed around pilgrimages, the Holy Land, the Church and EOHSJ. Please take some time to browse the tables and connect with these ministries and vendors, and learn about what has been accomplished and what more we can do.

Sr. Deirdre Byrne

EVENT SPEAKER

Sister Deirdre Byrne, POSC, is an active missionary sister and superior of her community in Washington, DC. She is double board-certified in family medicine and general surgery. A native of the Washington, D.C. area, “Sister DeDe” is one of eight siblings, the youngest of which is Bishop William Byrne of the Springfield Diocese. After graduation from Virginia Tech, Sister DeDe followed in her thoracic surgeon father’s footsteps and entered medical school at Georgetown University, where she eventually completed a surgical residency.

During that time she also joined the Army. After a life of medical and military service in far ranging areas, she was led to the Little Workers of the Sacred Heart community, whose charism involves sisters placing each and every person they care for between the Heart of Jesus and Mary.  Her apostolate has been performing overseas medical missionary surgery and providing free medical care for the poor and uninsured. The over 125-year-old community includes 400-500 members. By 2000, the board-certified Dr. Byrne made her commitment to the Little Workers and began her novitiate training in earnest.

Sister DeDe retired with the rank of Colonel from the United States Army in 2009 after 29 years of service in the military. She was extremely grateful for the opportunity to have served the “brave soldiers” while deployed to Afghanistan. Currently, she is the superior of the D.C. Little Workers of the Sacred Heart house, where the sisters run a pro-bono physical therapy clinic and diabetic eye clinic, medical clinic and a front-line pro-life ministry including the Abortion Pill Reversal, and retirement home for her elderly sisters.
